When relationships go bad, you can almost always point back to a specific moment at which you said, “That’s it, I’ve had enough of this.” Jessica Simpson is talking about that moment in her marriage to Nick Lachey.

Was it an infidelity? Despite some rumors to the contrary, it was nothing of the sort. Rather, acccording to her, it was in October 2005 when he decided to stay home rather than go to Africa with her on a charity mission for Operation Smile.

If their reality show was any indication of what life was really like, then it was surely just the straw that broke the camel’s back. On the show, he was always staying home acting like an irresponsible frat boy while she went out and brought home the bacon. Then when she did get home from this gig or that, he always very critical of her. More than once my own significant other commented that she would have tossed his unemployed derriere out of the house long before Simpson finally did.

Making that trip to Africa alone surely gave Simpson a lot of time to think about her relationship, and unfortunately for Lachey, she finally came to the same conclusion herself.

In the latest episode of Sara Evans’ divorce drama, the couple went a courtin’, and it looks like Sara got exactly what she wanted from the trip.

Despite her soon-to-be ex’s allegations regarding her parenting style, she has custody of their three children. Evans claimed he took money out their bank accounts and transferred it into his name, and now he has to give half of it back. Though it applies to both of them, it’s quite obvious from the original allegations that he has to undergo psychological testing and cut out the boozing.

The final proof of which one of them is truly the wronged party is in the final graf of the story:

Outside the courtroom Thursday, Schelske responded, “I do,” when asked by reporters if he still loved his wife. Evans, on the other hand, maintained a stony silence.

Yeah, of course you do, Craig: now that the gravy train is leaving town without you. But shouldn’t you have thought of that before you went looking for a hookup on Craig’s List?

Let’s say you’re married to a very attractive superstar singer, middle-aged, unemployed, with three children. What would you do? If you’re Sara Evans’ husband, the obvious answer is to sit home all day drinking alcohol and watching porn while soliciting sex partners on Craig’s List.

That’s the picture that’s emerging from Sara Evans’ surprise decision to quit ‘Dancing With the Stars’ to spend time with her children while seeking a divorce from Craig Schelske, her husband since 1993. According to her, the oldest of their children walked in on her husband while he was watching porn, and she subsequently found multiple pictures on their computer of him in flagrante with multiple partners - none of which were her. Whoops, Craig!

The usual allegations of emotional and verbal abuse follow which means that things haven’t exactly been rosy between them for some time and there have been more than a couple of nasty arguments between the two. But…

When you’re riding the gravy train of not having to work while your wife is supporting you in a lifestyle to which you could never have aspired if not for her obvious talent and good looks, maybe you should be cutting her a little slack and, at the least, be a whole lot smarter and more discreet about any extra-marital activities in which you partake in her absence.

On top of everything else, Sara Evans is seeking child support from the philandering soon-to-be ex which just makes me laugh. She’s a multi-millionaire, and he’s an unemployed drunk who doesn’t know a good thing when he sees it. And now he’s probably going to be saddled with moving into a crappy little apartment, getting a job and having to pay child support on top of everything else.

Schelske has to be just about the dumbest man on the planet to give up the life he was living for some cheap thrills, and whatever misery may follow from his stupidity is nothing more than what he fairly deserves…

According to an upcoming cover story for Us Weekly, that very well may be the case.

If you parse the statements carefully, it appears that the chronology probably went something like this: Kate Hudson was having marital problems while on the set of You, Me & Dupree, and she turned to Owen Wilson to talk about them. He was attentive and showed concern for her feelings, something she most likely was not getting at home. At some point, the light bulb went off in her head that it was time to leave her marriage because of deficiencies in her relationship with Chris Robinson. Once she had made up her mind that her marriage was over, things developed between she and Wilson.

So, in a technical sense, did Owen Wilson break up Kate Hudson’s marriage? No. But he may well have shown her what was lacking in it. In my experience, no one ever broke up another person’s marriage. Only a marriage already on its way to divorce is vulnerable to outside influences, and at first glance, that appears to have been the case for Hudson.

To my eyes, she and Wilson are a much likely couple than she and Robinson ever made. But whether or not they’re “built to last” remains to be seen, especially in the whirlwind world of Hollywood marriages and divorces…

…and it’s about time too…

After one of the most public and ugly separations in the couple of years, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards have reached an “amicable resolution” of their divorce. Does that mean they’re getting along? No, it just means the lawyers have agreed on how to split the money. Isn’t it funny how even the word “amicable” means something completely different inside Hollywood than outside?

In the beginning of this whole divorce situation, my sympathies were with Denise. However, after the skeevy move with Heather Locklear’s husband, Richie Sambora, I started to rethink those sympathies. A wise man once said ‘For every beautiful woman, there’s a man tired of putting up with her [stuff].’ And then I remembered that it wasn’t like Charlie’s reputation as a partying ladies man was a big secret, so she knew what she was getting into before she ever married him. So I wound up just being tired of hearing about the whole thing pretty quickly after that…

Now it looks like both of them can chalk this one up to poor judgment and move on…
